Nightfall developer David Szymanski has introduced his subsequent recreation. As a substitute of paying homage to the mid-90s strafe shooters, Butcher’s Creek takes inspiration from early 00s online game villains like Manhunt and Condemned: Felony Origins. In different phrases, “you may use rusty instruments to brutalize a gang of serial torturers within the distant Appalachian forest” and see all of it by means of the fuzz of a VHS filter.
Set in 1993, the protagonist of Butcher’s Creek is outwardly scouting the city for “actual snuff tapes” when he’s ambushed by a “gang of sadistic killers”. He is high quality with him, actually. Then you’ll struggle with “hammers, axes, pipes, 2x4s, field cutters and extra”.
There is not any trailer but, however there are a handful of screenshots on Steam. The VHS filter appears nice.
I liked the primary Condemend, which paired crime scene investigation with supernatural nonsense and a fight system that felt heavy and tactile. The iron bars weren’t simply picked up, they had been ripped from the partitions, and the frenzied enemies that rushed at you felt bodily strong within the surroundings in a means that first-person shooter enemies usually did not. I am curious if Szymanski can obtain one thing related. Or if he needs it.
It’s value noting that Szymanski’s Nightfall and Thieflike, Gloomwood, had been created and revealed in collaboration with different corporations. Butcher’s Creek is not, which maybe places it extra in cahoots together with his lesser works like Chop Goblins. These are nice too, thoughts (supporter solely).
Butcher’s Creek is focusing on a 2024 launch.
